Run or Walk for a Cause you Believe in

Calling all runners, walkers, strollers…whatever your preferred mode of transportation, there are a number of ways to give back this summer while getting into shape. There’s nothing like competing in your first ever race, and making it over the finish line with friends, family, and community members cheering you on.

Maybe it’s a cause that’s close to your heart, maybe it’s one that you just admire, whatever the reason, here are some great opportunities to celebrate some amazing organizations in Gallatin County, while also supporting your own health and wellness:

 

May 11, 2014: HAVEN Mother’s Day 5K Run/Walk*

Presented by First Security Bank, celebrate mothers and show your support for victims of domestic violence. This year’s event will be held at the Ridge Athletic Club (4181 Fallon St.) at 10am. Food for Thought will provide delicious picnic fare, while the Ridge will have bouncy castles for kiddos. All moms crossing the finish line will receive a flower to honor them on their special day.

May 17, 2014: Run for Recovery

Join fellow runners on a morning dash, casual jaunt, or refreshing walk through Black Bull subdivision with 360-degree mountain views for the first annual Run for Recovery 5K fundraiser. All proceeds from the race will support Alive Again Life Recovery Mission (AALRM).  AALRM exists for the purpose of creating a safe Christian environment for individuals of all ages to fellowship, learn and heal from addiction and addiction-related effects.  Their goal is to promote health and wellness by offering the opportunity to “Run for Recovery.” The race will commence at 9:30 a.m. and will be followed by awards, lunch, door (outdoor, that is) prizes, and fun.  There will be categories by age and gender and also a walking/stroller division.

May 31: Hustle for Hope

In recognition of Mental Health Month, Gallatin Mental Health Center (GMHC) is hosting its first ever 5k Hustle for Hope Walk/Run.

June 7, 2014: Dash and Splash for the Children’s Museum

Runners of all ages and skill levels are welcome to participate, and prizes are awarded to the top finishers across a dozen categories. Choose your race, and cross the finish line in style with a dive through our Slip ‘N Slide! Races include 5K Classic, a 1-mile Kids Chase, or a 2-mile Kids Challenge. Enjoy the All-ages Obstacle Course, Toddler Tumble, and Bounce House! Coffee, ice cream and popcorn for sale all morning! Proceeds from Dash and Splash help fund CMB’s Access Program, providing free or reduced-price admission to families in need from all around Montana. Register by May 21st to receive a free Race T-Shirt!

June 14, 2014: Girls on the Run 5K for Father’s Day*

A fun run/walk 5k, and a 5k at the River Rock Community Center, 101 River Rock Road in Belgrade, celebrating all finishers as winners with no official timing. (They will have a large red time clock and runners are welcome to time themselves and check the big clock when you finish, but no times will be reported to the paper or other websites.) Run, walk, skip, hop or stroll to the finish while supporting a great local program for young girls. Stroller, dog and family friendly!

July 4 2014: Race for Independence *

Celebrate the independence of our country and the people served by Reach Inc. by joining us for a 1K, 5K, or 10K run or walk on the trails of north Bozeman. All proceeds from this event will go to Reach Inc., a local non-profit that helps adults with developmental disabilities to lead more independent, fulfilling lives.

Registration: Paper forms are available at the Reach Work Center at 322 Gallatin Park Drive Monday- Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm, or fill it out online.

Cost: $25 for the 5K and 10K, $15 for the 1K, and $10 for an optional tee shirt. There is a small additional fee for on-line registration.

July 4 2014: Liberty Dash

Start your holiday celebration by joining with a 5k or 10k run by the Yellowstone River in Livingston, Montana! All proceeds benefit Landon’s Lookout, Livingston’s non-profit teen center. There will be a fun run for all kids at 8:15 AM, with the timed 5k, 5k walk, and 10k starting at 8:40 AM. All events will be in Sacajawea Park, Livingston. Race bag and swag for all runners!

August 2, 2014: The Sweet Pea Run, 5K/10K

This great community event, and one of the oldest running races in Bozeman, offers something for everyone. This is a family fun event as well as a competitive running race offering cash prizes and prizes for best costumes!

Registration: Online at racemontana.com; walk-in registration will be available at packet pick up from Wednesday, July 30th to Friday, August 1st from 10:00 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. Walk-in fees are $15 until Friday, August 1st when they go up to $20. There is no race day registration.

Cost: Early Bird online registration is $13 until July 1st and is $15 until online registration closes on July 28th at 8:00 p.m.

August 16, 2014: The Scramble

This fundraiser for clean water features a 15K, 4 mile, and Kid’s Fun Run (12 and under). Start/finish area at the Corner of Baxter and Love in Bozeman, with music, awards, and refreshments. Cash prizes for top finishers. Race shirts for all entrants.

November 27, 2014: Huffing For Stuffing Thanksgiving Day Run

 Huffing For Stuffing provides a fun, heart-healthy, family-oriented event that brings the community together to support our neighbors who rely upon the Gallatin Valley Food Bank during a time of great need. It’s also a Gallatin Valley Thanksgiving holiday tradition! Runners and walkers of all abilities are welcome!
