Certified Car Seat Safety
The Montana HB 586 takes effect on October 1, 2025, and requires all children under the age of nine to be in an appropriate child safety seat or booster seat. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recommends keeping children in their car seats for as long as possible before moving them to the next type of car seat. Many children are not tall enough to graduate from a booster seat to a lap and shoulder belt alone until they are at least 4’9” tall, which is about eight years or older.
Whether you’ve just installed a car seat or need help installing or using one, we can help. Certified technicians will inspect your car seat free of charge and show you how to correctly install and use it.

- Car seat safety appointments at GCCHD will be about 30 minutes per seat. If you have multiple seats to check, please sign up for one appointment per seat.
- Please note the make, model, and year of your vehicle when you sign up.

The Gallatin City-County Health Department building located at 215 W. Mendenhall is temporarily closed as of February 11, 2025. We have temporary office space located at 400 E. Babcock in Bozeman, but this space does not have dedicated parking.
